How to Create a Bootable USB Drive for Installing almost any OS
- Step 1: Run Rufus with administrator rights on Windows.
- Step 2: Click on Device and select the USB Flash Drive.
- Step 3: For the Partition scheme select any of the following:
1. Select “ MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers “ for BIOS boot mode.
2. Select “ GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer ” for UEFI boot mode.
- Step 4: Select the NTFS file system if the ISO file is more than 4GB in size.
- Step 5: Leave the cluster size as default.
- Step 6: Under the format options select the following.
- Select “ Quick Format “
- Select “ Create extended label and icon files “
- Select “ Create a bootable disk using “
- Step 7: Click on the drive icon beside “ Create a bootable disk using “ to select the ISO file.
- Step 8: Finally verify all the above settings and click on the Start button to write the Bootable ISO onto the USB flash drive.

Rufus is a USB formatting utility which also can create a bootable USB
drive using a bootable ISO image. This app requires admin rights.
Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc.
It can be be especially useful for cases where:
you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, etc.)
you need to work on a system that doesn´t have an OS installed
you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
you want to run a low-level utility
Despite its small size, Rufus provides you with everything you need!
Remember that once formatted, your drive is still usable as before to transfer data: it doesn´t have to be dedicated for DOS or ISO installation only.
